In the protected chateau grounds where the Home for the Elderly in Sokolnice is located, three interconnected two-story pavilions have been completed, offering 48 new beds for seniors. The construction started in September 2021 and was funded by the South Moravian Region with a grant from the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs. We installed our lights in these three buildings, which will contribute to the quality of life for the clients. The grand opening took place on February 28th with the participation of the governor of the South Moravian Region, Jan Grolich, and our founder, Hynek MedÅickÃœ, was invited for the prestigious ribbon-cutting ceremony.
All three newly built houses are barrier-free; the ground floor will serve immobile seniors and those with Alzheimer’s disease, advanced dementia, and significantly reduced mobility, while the second floor will be occupied by mobile clients. The lights we installed in the home for the elderly emit the same light as natural light outside. During the day, they emit natural white daylight, and after sunset, the automatically controlled lighting system adapts to the clients’ biological clocks and emits warm light, signaling the body to prepare for nightly regeneration. At night, special motion sensors activate orange orientation lights when needed, which do not disrupt night regeneration and sleep. “Thanks to proper synchronization of circadian rhythms during the day, evening, and night, clients will have better sleep quality and more energy and better mood during the day. I wish all the residents of the home to feel the benefits of sunlight, even though they spend most of their time indoors,” commented Hynek MedÅickÃœ, lighting expert and founder of Spectrasol.
The project is called Humanization of Residential Services Sokolnice, with an estimated cost of 97.4 million CZK, of which the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs provided a grant of approximately 33 million CZK to the South Moravian Region. The total reconstruction cost was 112 million CZK, providing 16 new places for seniors in each of the three added buildings. The general contractor for the entire construction was PSG Construction, and we acted as the subcontractor for the biodynamic lighting in the project. “The whole project went smoothly, and the South Moravian Region was satisfied with the cooperation and the results. We agreed that our biodynamic lights could serve as a model and reference installation for other similar projects and facilities in this project,” explained OndÅej KubÃÄek, project manager of Spectrasol.
A new therapeutic garden and other green corners, which will serve seniors as places of peace and relaxation, are also new. For immobile seniors, it is especially important to come into more intense contact with nature. “The construction is a model for other implementations; overall, it stands out for its innovative and modern design. Seniors with special needs will find a beautiful home in the new spaces, and we are very happy to have had the opportunity to contribute to improving their quality of life,” adds Daniel JesenskÃœ, Executive Director of Spectrasol.
