Autumn 2024 not only brought new first graders to the desks of the Masaryk Elementary School in Prague 21, but also full-spectrum procognitive lighting to its first classrooms. Its advantages are not only clear in the shorter autumn and winter days, but all year round.
The effect of full-spectrum light mimicking natural sunlight is suitable wherever people spend prolonged periods of time during the day. The school is therefore an ideal environment. Thanks to the initiative of Helena Králová, head of the Department of Education and Culture at the Prague 21 Municipal District, this type of lighting was installed in Masaryk Elementary School during the holidays. Two classrooms were upgraded towards the end of the holiday season, with additional classrooms to be added by the end of 2024. Spectrasol was selected as the supplier.
“The lighting at Masaryk Primary School has long been begging for replacement – the buzzing and flickering fluorescent tubes were well past their prime and also very energy-intensive”, Helena Králová explains, adding: “I am very pleased to have the opportunity to try out a new trend in school lighting. This LED lighting not only provides excellent visibility, but also has a positive effect on the mental and physical health and vitality of children and adults. Especially at a time when research confirms an increase in mental health problems in the youngest age groups, we consider it important to contribute to improving the situation in this way”.
“We have children ourselves, and we see the problems they have faced in recent years. Our lighting is proven to benefit the learning outcomes and health of children and teachers. It is great that the Prague 21 municipality has decided to use this tool to improve the environment and conditions for studying”, says David Piller, project manager and team leader of Spectrasol.
