AGEL Šternberk Maternity Hospital continues its modernization and brings new mothers and their babies even greater comfort and a sense of home. As part of this year’s extensive reconstruction, newly renovated family rooms have been equipped with Spectrasol biodynamic lighting. The lighting naturally imitates the changes of daylight, thus supporting the regeneration of mothers and the peaceful sleep of newborns.
Light as a silent therapist
While standard artificial LED lighting does not respect the biorhythm of the human body and often disrupts sleep patterns, biodynamic light automatically changes throughout the day, evening, and night just like in nature, supporting a healthy biorhythm.
- In the morning and forenoon, it supports energy and alertness with the help of full-spectrum light sources: helping mothers start their day.
- In the evening, it gently shifts into warm tones that prepare the body for rest and night-time regeneration.
- At night, it provides soft orange orientation light that enables care for the baby without disrupting the production of the sleep hormone melatonin for either the mother or the newborn, and thus without affecting sleep quality.
“Our priority was to create an environment that not only provides the highest level of professional care, but also evokes a feeling of home and safety. The new rooms with biodynamic lighting are an example of how modern technologies can be used for the benefit of patients and their families,” explains the director of AGEL Šternberk Hospital, MUDr. Kazimír Kovář.
This technology, which is common abroad for example in intensive care units, helps parents and newborns cope more easily with the physical and psychological demands of the first days after birth.
MUDr. Hana Zedníčková Škodová, head physician of the neonatal department, adds: “The first days with a newborn are unique for the family and at the same time very sensitive. A properly set environment is crucial for regeneration and peaceful sleep of babies. Biodynamic lighting creates an atmosphere that helps them during this period and at the same time supports the work of our team.”
With the modernization and installation of Spectrasol lighting, AGEL Šternberk Maternity Hospital offers a comfortable and healthy environment for mothers and their loved ones during the arrival of a child into the world.
