The installation of biodynamic lighting significantly boosted melatonin production, resulting in improved daytime vitality, sleep and cognitive function in the elderly
The results of testing physiological parameters with the use of actigraphs and melatonin sampling from saliva showed an increase in melatonin production due to the effect of the tested lighting. Optimisation of melatonin production and circadian rhythms correlated with improvements in daytime activity, sleep, mood and cognitive test scores in nursing home residents. Thus, it indicates a significant benefit of lightening in improving the symptoms of ageing.
The tested lighting also improved the visual and physical comfort of the residents of the senior citizensâ home
Subjective visual comfort ratings of research participants using questionnaires improved after installation of daytime pro-cognitive LED lighting as part of a comprehensive biodynamic lighting system. The night orientation lighting was also evaluated significantly positively, which gives clients more confidence and safety when moving around the space at night.
