Natural darkness is as important as natural light for the life of most organisms, and for some even more important. The natural alternation of light and darkness is not an outmoded rhythm of our life, but a metronome synchronizing the physiological functions of organisms, including humans. The consequences of excessive artificial light at night, so-called light pollution, are one of the many taxes that human society pays for its progress and increasing comfort.
