FAQ/Glossary

Is 5000 Kelvin not the same as 5000 Kelvin? What is the difference between color temperature and spectrum?

This is one of the biggest misunderstandings in the lighting market. Correlated color temperature (CCT), measured in Kelvins (K), is a very simplified value that only describes the perceived shade of white light — whether the light is “warm” (reddish, e.g., 2700 K) or “cool” (bluish, e.g., 6000 K).

However, this value tells us nothing about the spectral composition of the emitted light. Two light sources can have exactly the same color temperature, e.g., 5000 K, but their impact on our health and perception can be dramatically different.

Physical difference in the spectrum at the same 5000 K:

  • Standard LED (5000 K): Physically, it has a sharp, isolated spike in the blue part of the spectrum followed by a large “dip” in the cyan region (the so-called cyan gap). The rest of the spectrum is often incomplete. Although the light appears “cool white” to the eye, it lacks the key wavelengths needed for biological non-visual effects and has an overall unbalanced color composition compared to natural light.
  • Spectrasol (5000 K): Our technology is designed to replicate the physical reality of sunlight. Our light at around 5000 K has a full, continuous, and balanced spectrum. It has no dangerous blue spikes or gaps. It contains all colors in a balanced proportion, including the crucial cyan and deep red components.

Why is this physical difference important?

Relying only on the Kelvin value is like judging the quality of food solely by its color. Our procognitive lighting doesn’t just provide a “white shade” — it delivers complete “light nutrition.” This physical fullness of the spectrum is why our light demonstrably supports productivity, mental well-being, and health. We don’t just provide light for vision; we provide the energy of the sun for the vitality of the whole body.
