Client: EduVision s.r.o.
Field of activity: creating experimental learning spaces
Description of the problem or challenge:
The ARCHIMEDES® project aims to build a global network of sustainable year-round schools/classrooms focusing on environmental and sustainability issues, linked together through a web-based platform. Pupils learn in an experiential way: online experts from different walks of life and places around the world enter the classroom and guide pupils through the topic and describe the topic in an interactive way.
For the model classroom, classic LED lights were originally chosen, but the designer opted for Spectrasol soon after learning about the technology and its benefits. ARCHIMEDES is an educational centre where students learn, and the chosen procognitive lighting will not only help them visually but also by boosting their cognitive abilities. It will also support their health and overall vitality.
So the goal was to create lighting that…
…will be in line with the sustainable classrooms concept of the Archimedes project;
…will help maintain attention and support the cognitive functions of students and teachers;
…will make teaching in modern facilities even more attractive;
…is as gentle and beneficial to the eyesight of students and teachers as possible;
…contributes to increased concentration and alertness, reduces fatigue and error rates of students and, above all;
…contributes greatly to their health and vitality.
Description of the solution, technology used:
Procognitive Spectrasol INO SCHOOL 1300×200 mm luminaire, direct beam of light
Control: ON/OFF
Project stage: completed
Key results:
There has thus far only been positive feedback regarding the classroom, and the operators believe that this modern, but above all healthy lighting is the next step towards making Archimedes a unique place to meet and share experiences.
Among the noted positive effects are better concentration and mood, as well as less eye and body fatigue. The light is perceived as very pleasant, evoking the feeling of being under the open sky.
Client statement:
“Originally we chose standard LED lights, but then we agreed to Spectrasol becoming another member of the Living Lab project at the Brno Exhibition Centre, by installing their patented luminaires in the ARCHIMEDES classroom”, said Antonín Koplík, author of the Archimedes project network,after the installation of this unique bio-optimised procognitive lighting, adding: “There are several classrooms like that not only in the Czech Republic, but here, at the Brno Exhibition Centre, this is the first ARCHIMEDES with this lighting and we will continue our cooperation in the future”.
Next steps:
After the successful pilot installation, further deliveries of procognitive luminaires lighting fixtures to Archimedes classrooms will follow.
