Field of activity: development and production of scientific instruments
About the Client
Thermo Fisher Scientific is a world leader in products and services for science. The main focus of the company in Brno is the development and production of advanced scientific instruments – electron microscopes and spectrometers. Its customers include world-renowned universities, leading electronics manufacturers, pharmaceutical companies, and R&D centers in the space, semiconductor, mining, automotive, and aviation industries.
Thermo Fisher Scientific employs more than 100,000 people worldwide, with the Brno technology center being one of the largest branches. The workplace in the Czech Republic concentrates extensive production as well as top-level development.
Description of the Problem or Challenge:
The client required a complete replacement of the lighting in its headquarters, a modern building that is part of the Brno technology park. The demands on lighting were high: it was necessary to meet the requirements of a super-clean production environment, which did not allow the replacement of entire lighting fixtures but only their internal components. At the same time, the client expected the lighting to support the health and performance of employees as well as the quality of the working environment, where cleanroom conditions do not allow daylight.
Description of the Solution, Technology Used:
The logical choice to achieve the goals was full-spectrum daylight lighting suitable for both sensitive instrument production and office operations. For the production areas, a specific solution was developed in the form of so-called retrofits, where the internal components of the original LED fixtures were replaced.
The current implementation includes 365 retrofit units and more than 100 pro-cognitive lighting fixtures of the PHD and IBP types. Testing also includes a freestanding Terra lamp.
Client Statement:
The client is satisfied with the solution and plans to implement it in other areas of the plant.
The plant director, RNDr. Petr Střelec, says: “Spectrasol products first caught my attention privately. I am a physicist, I am interested in aspects of human health, and I realize the importance of daylight for the health of our employees. First, we replaced the lights in my office and secretly in two meeting rooms. The feedback was positive, the spectral measurements we conducted thrilled us. Therefore, we launched the replacement program.”
