Client: Thermo Fisher Scientific Brno s.r.o.
Industry: manufacture of equipment for science and research
About the client
Thermo Fisher Scientific is a global leader in products and services for science. It employs over 130,000 people worldwide. The company provides customers with a wide portfolio of scientific products – from basic laboratory equipment to advanced analytical instruments. This helps create a healthier, cleaner, and safer world. The Brno technology center, with nearly 1,000 employees, is one of the largest Thermo Fisher branches globally. It combines extensive manufacturing and cutting-edge development in one location.
Problem or challenge
The Brno branch specializes in the production of advanced electron microscopes and spectrometers. Due to the nature of production, which requires ultra-clean and dust-free environments, the spaces have no windows, meaning no natural daylight. Employees spend entire days under artificial light. The director of the Brno branch, Petr Střelec, sought lighting that closely mimics natural light to support the natural biorhythm. Given the scale of implementation, a solution that was quick and economically feasible was also required.
Expected goals
- Improve lighting conditions in offices and production areas
- Support employee health, performance, and satisfaction
- Ensure quick and uncomplicated installation
Solution
Spectrasol developed its own retrofit solution, replacing only the LED modules in existing luminaires. This solution not only allows rapid implementation (and thus faster restoration of reconstructed operations) but is also economical and, above all, environmentally friendly, as much less waste is generated by retaining the existing luminaire housings.
A total of 307 IBP PRO-WORK 600×600 WORK luminaires, 447 Retrofit 1200×600 units, and 22 PHD units were installed. The solution also included the pro-cognitive Terra lamp.
Result
The new lighting created a more pleasant atmosphere in the workspace. Employees feel more focused, alert, and less fatigued. The light positively affects overall team well-being and vitality, and it is also more energy-efficient.
Thanks to the successful pilot installation, the technology was gradually expanded throughout the entire campus, and a next stage is planned for a new company building.
Client statement
“In our clean production spaces, where nearly a thousand people work, it is not possible to provide daylight, which is why we decided to install pro-cognitive lighting. Light affects the human body, circadian rhythm, and we all know how strongly monitors and phones affect our eyes.
I didn’t want to give people something I hadn’t tried myself. That’s why we started with installation in my office. In the end, I chose Spectrasol because I didn’t see a better solution. The light is pleasant for me, I work better, and I’m more alert. Even my thirty-year-old fern likes this light, it grows better. Also, for example, a colleague who suffers from migraines and usually dims the light doesn’t complain about your light, even though it’s bright. She even says it doesn’t give her a headache.”
— Petr Střelec, Director of the Brno branch of Thermo Fisher Scientific
